Julien Monti
Composer, transverse flute,
bass flute and double bass, fujara
A breath of flute, music, and passion carries Julien Monti from interpretation to creation. Since 1990, he has composed and produced numerous performances, writing for theater, dance, cinema, and documentaries. He has created over sixty original compositions for theater and explores a variety of styles, from jazz to rock, including electronic and ethnic music. His collaborations have led him to work with many artists and ensembles in Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium, and Asia. Fascinated by flutes from around the world, he has built an extensive network of musicians and instrument makers, playing a wide range of instruments—from large Slovak Fujara to Colombian Gaitas, as well as Indian Bansuri flutes and Chinese Dizi. In 2022, he incorporated a custom-made contrabass flute, specially crafted for him by Belgian flute maker Pierre Coulon, into his repertoire.
Drawn to electronic music, he has been exploring sound processing since 1996, developing a unique sonic universe that he applies to performances, shows, film scores, and documentaries.
